Initial Assessment session for children with diffculties in speech clarity only in the absence of language or social communication difficulties. This assessment includes formal assessments and a case history. A checklist summary report will be provided at the end of the session as well as a verbal summary and discussion of the findings - based on a 60 minute session.

• Parent interview to find ot your concerns.
• Formal and informal assessments.
• Discussion about the findings and implications and the way forward.

Mileage

£10 per half hour of travel IF travel is to be added to the fee. This is only applicable to addresses more then 30 minutes' car journey away from my base.

Therapy

All new referrals must attend an initial assessment which will focus on a wide range of communication skills including comprehension, communication, speech sounds, attention, play, listening skills and social skills.

Assessment includes obtaining a case-history, observations of the child during social interaction and/or play, completion of a range of formal assessments where appropriate and a nursery/school visit if felt necessary. The purpose of assessment is to:

• Gauge the communication strengths and needs that the child is presenting with and decide on the diagnosis these are suggestive of.
• Analyse the assessment findings for therapeutic implications i.e. the frequency and type of therapeutic intervention best suited to your child’s needs.
• Record a baseline of your child’s skills that will enable setting therapy targets and measure progress.

Initial assessment sessions take 60-90 minutes to complete.

A further assessment session may be required in addition if it is essential to observe/assess the child in their educational setting to gather information about social interaction and play skill with peers at nursery/school or if additional formal assessments are needed.

Parents/carers will be provided with a brief written report following assessment, and with your consent, copies distributed to other professionals involved with your child.

The initial assessment findings will determine the appropriate therapy intervention for your child's individual needs and may include:

• Regular one-to-one therapy sessions; weekly, fortnightly or monthly as appropriate for children who require direct therapy.
• A home programme demonstration session; discussing and familiarising you with the tasks and activities for you to carry out at home over an agreed period of time. This intervention is for children I feel will improve by you following a home programme without direct therapy.
• Nursery / School Consultations / Therapy Sessions – I can offer intervention to your child’s nursery/school providing hands on therapy to your child. A staff member from the educational team needs to be present so that therapy recommendations can be implemented daily.
• A session to demonstrate a school-programme with strategies/activities, suggested IEP targets and the provision of resources (where a member of staff has been allocated regular time to work with the child on a one-to-one or small group basis).

I prefer for my therapy sessions to be observed by parents, learning support assistants and teachers to ensure the therapy goes on daily.

Realistic, achievable and measurable therapy aims will be set for each child. These will focus on the specific area of communication difficulty and can be incorporated into a child's Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Targets will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.

I will always try to liaise with the NHS Speech and Language Therapist involved with your child and work collaboratively.
